Meet Nicola
I live in the North Cotswolds with my husband David and golden retriever Quince, and create artworks in a rustic studio space at the back of our cottage.
After finishing my embroidery apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework in 1994, I was hired as a part-time painter and stitcher for the renowned needlepoint specialists Tapisserie, located in Chelsea, London. Working with their stunning designs for fourteen years gave me invaluable experience in producing beautiful compositions and colour combinations.
In 2013, inspired by William Morris patterns, I created a collection of needlepoint bird kits and these were sold by major retailer John Lewis plc, in addition to the Royal School of Needlework shop, and several needlepoint stores in the USA.
When the pandemic ended in 2021 I was invited by Jeremy Hamilton to work with him and his company Needlework Travel. I designed and taught site-specific needlepoint projects for his tour groups, and working with his clients inspired me to create my own needlepoint brand 'The Hand Paints'.
I have always enjoyed working in the field of stitching, but now I am having a really wonderful time painting canvases for needlepoint enthusiasts around the world who delight in stitching my designs.
